How to check an Excel calculation file before plant use
- Physical basis: Confirm dry vs wet mass, hourly vs daily flow, reference temperature and pressure and the units of all input quantities.
- Engineering method: Recalculate an example independently. For a kiln heat balance, all incoming and outgoing enthalpy and losses must reconcile within a documented uncertainty.
- Workbook quality: Check formulas, hidden cells and worksheets, external links, macros, source references and software compatibility.
- Applicability: Verify equipment and process constraints; a long wet kiln assumption may not fit a modern precalciner plant.
- Approvals: Obtain engineering and operations review before changing plant setpoints or making capital purchases.

On 1 November 2026, CemNet listed a cement-manufacturing technology course at about $1,000 and The Cement Institute advertised its instructor-led kiln maintenance course at $1,400. These providers offer a taught curriculum and/or assessment.
